Scraping new Shopify stores is a moving target. The Shopify API doesn't expose a 'new store' feed, so we had to crawl app store listings, theme detection, and public order pages. Took us 3 months to get it right. We now pull ~2,000 new stores a day, but deduplication is a bitch. We check against known domains and normalize subdomains. It's not perfect, but it's the best raw list you'll find. We also flag stores that are password-protected or have no products—those are probably still building.

We tried using Google's cache and sitemap pings, but that missed half the stores. Ended up building a custom crawler that monitors Shopify's public app store and partner directories. The tricky part is filtering out test stores and abandoned projects. We look for at least one product and a valid checkout URL. That cuts noise by 70%. We also capture the store's creation date from the first product's 'created_at' timestamp. That's how we sort by 'new'. It's not perfect, but it's consistent.

The hardest part is handling stores that switch from a trial to a paid plan—they sometimes change their subdomain. We track the original subdomain and the custom domain separately, but we only include the custom domain if it's live. We also strip out obvious junk: stores with zero products, stores with only 'password' pages, and stores that are clearly just redirects. The raw CSV has about 40 columns, but you'll probably only use 10. We give you everything anyway, because why not.

Data Schema & Dictionary

store_name

The name of the store as displayed on the Shopify admin or theme. It's often the brand name, but sometimes it's the company legal name. Useful for personalization and qualification.

primary_domain

The main public domain (e.g., mystore.com) if they've connected one. If they haven't, we use the default Shopify subdomain (e.g., mystore.myshopify.com). This is what you'll want to visit or enrich.

myshopify_subdomain

The default subdomain assigned by Shopify (e.g., mystore.myshopify.com). Even if they have a custom domain, this is the original. Handy for checking the store's age or if they abandon the custom domain.

store_created_at

The date the store was first created, based on the earliest product or collection timestamp we can find. It's our best guess for 'new'. It's not official, but it's accurate to within a week or so.

store_country

The country we think the store is based in, inferred from the currency, language, and address in the store's policies page. Not 100% accurate, but good enough for geo-targeting.

store_currency

The currency code (e.g., USD, EUR) that the store uses for pricing. That tells you if they're selling locally or internationally.

has_products

Boolean (true/false) indicating if we detected at least one product on the store. We exclude stores that are still under construction. If false, skip them unless you're selling dev services.

product_count

The number of products we found in the store's catalog. It's a rough count from the /products.json endpoint. Good for segmenting by store size.

has_custom_domain

Boolean (true/false) indicating if the store uses a custom domain versus the default subdomain. Custom domains cost money, so it's a sign the store is serious.

store_theme

The name of the Shopify theme (e.g., Dawn, Debut). We detect it from the theme CSS. It's not critical, but some people use it to guess the tech sophistication.

social_links

A list of social media URLs (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) found on the store's homepage. Useful for cross-referencing and outreach.

last_checked_at

The timestamp when we last crawled the store. We re-crawl every 7 days, but this tells you if the store has gone offline or changed. If it's older than 2 weeks, treat it as stale.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fresh is this data?
We scrape new stores every day, but we re-crawl the entire list every 7 days to update status and product counts. The CSV you download is a snapshot from the last full crawl. If you need real-time, that's a different product. But for most use cases, this is plenty fresh. If a store bounces, tell us and we'll swap the credit. Simple.
How do you determine if a store is 'new'?
We look at the earliest product or collection creation timestamp we can find via the store's public JSON endpoints. It's not official, but it's consistent. We also exclude stores that are password-protected or have no products. So 'new' means 'publicly active and with at least one product'. If you need exact signup dates, you're out of luck—Shopify doesn't expose that.
Why are some stores missing from the list?
We can't catch every store that launches. Shopify doesn't have a public directory. Our crawler finds stores via app store listings, partner directories, and web indexes. Some stores never show up in any of those. Also, if a store is password-protected or has no products, we filter it out. So the list is a sample, not a census. It's still the best you'll get without paying for a private API.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes, send us your email and we'll send you 100 random rows from the latest crawl. No strings attached. If you like it, you can buy the full list. If not, no hard feelings. We know data quality is everything, so we want you to see it before you pay.
