Scraping supermarket chains is a nightmare. Their websites are 90% JavaScript and they block datacenter IPs like it's a sport. We spent 3 weeks rotating residential proxies and reverse-engineering their APIs. Finally cracked the pattern for extracting store-level contacts and chain hierarchy.
The data is a mess if you don't clean it. We dedupe by store ID and cross-check with official registries. Some chains have multiple banners under one parent, so we map that. Also, we tag whether a store is franchise or corporate—that matters for your pitch.
We update monthly, but the real value is the churn tracking. We flag stores that closed or opened in the last 90 days. That's gold for a sales rep. If you're prospecting, you want to hit the new ones before anyone else.
Data Schema & Dictionary
chain_name
The parent brand (e.g., 'Walmart Inc.'). If you're selling to HQ, this is your target. If you're selling to store managers, filter this out. It's messy sometimes because we map subsidiaries, but it's the cleanest we can get.
store_name
The actual store banner (e.g., 'Walmart Supercenter'). This is what shows up on the sign. Use it for personalized outreach—nobody wants to hear 'Dear Store Manager'.
store_id
Our internal unique identifier. It's stable across updates, so you can track a store over time. Don't use it for anything else, but it's handy for your CRM.
address
Full street address, city, state, ZIP. We geocode it too, but the raw address is here. If your sales team is doing local visits, this is the column they'll filter on.
phone
The store's direct phone line. We try to get the store-level number, not the 1-800 corporate line. Sometimes it's the front desk, but it's real.
store_email
Generic email like 'store123@chain.com' or 'manager@store.com'. We scrape it from the site or guess it based on pattern. Expect bounces—we verify what we can, but you'll still get some junk.
store_manager
Name of the store manager if we can find it. Often missing, but when it's there, it's a goldmine. Use it for direct mail or LinkedIn stalking.
franchise_flag
TRUE if it's a franchise, FALSE if corporate. This changes your pitch. Franchisees have more autonomy but less budget. Corporates have procurement processes. Know which you're dealing with.
opening_date
When the store opened. If it's within the last 90 days, that's a warm lead—they're setting up suppliers. If it's old, they're settled and harder to crack.
closing_date
When the store closed, if it did. We keep closed stores in the database for 90 days so you can clean your CRM. After that, they're out.
