Scraping California lawyer emails is a mess. The state bar directory is a static nightmare, and most firm sites block bots with Cloudflare. We spent weeks rotating proxies and parsing court records just to get the contact pages. Finally cracked it by combining the bar's public API with a custom crawler that mimics a real Chrome session. Now we pull 120k+ emails monthly, dedupe them against a suppression list, and validate syntax. It's not perfect, but it's the best you'll get without paying for a data broker.

The hard part wasn't the scraping itself—it was the validation. We ran every email through a regex, then a domain check, then a SMTP handshake. Turns out 18% of the bar directory's listed emails are dead or generic (info@, admin@). We filter those out by default. You can request to include them, but you'll be wasting your time. Our data skews toward solo practitioners and small firms because they're easier to parse. The big firms have their own compliance layers that block us. If you need BigLaw partners, you'll need a different source.

We update this list every month, but here's the catch: lawyers move offices a lot. So we cross-reference with the state bar's address changes and the USPS NCOA database to keep physical addresses current. Email addresses are harder. We re-verify the top 10k active senders every week. For the rest, you get a monthly scrub. If an email bounces, we credit you the bad record. We've been doing this for 3 years. It's a grind, but the data is solid. No fake names, no scraped LinkedIn profiles. Just official bar records and firm websites.
