Scraping bar emails is a pain. Most bars don't even have a website, let alone a public contact. We had to crawl Google Maps, Yelp, and Instagram bios, then cross-reference with state liquor license databases to get even a 70% match rate. The rest we had to guess from domain patterns and verify with SMTP checks. Not perfect, but it's the best you'll find without paying a fortune for a list that's mostly dead.
The hard part wasn't the scraping—it was the cleaning. Bar emails are riddled with generic info@ addresses that go to a voicemail that's never checked. We filtered out anything that bounced on initial SMTP handshake, then ran a second pass with a machine learning model trained on which emails actually get opened (based on our client's campaigns). Still, expect a 5-10% bounce rate. That's just the nature of the industry. People change jobs, bars close, and emails get abandoned.
We tried to get emails from bar booking platforms like OpenTable and Resy, but they're locked down tighter than a drum. So we had to go old school: scrape public event listings, happy hour PDFs, and even business cards from trade shows (don't ask how). The result is a list that's skews towards independent bars, not chains. If you want chain data, you're out of luck—they have corporate policies against third-party contact. But for local watering holes, this is gold.
Data Schema & Dictionary
bar_name
The official name of the bar as listed on their website or Google Maps. Useful for personalizing outreach. Expect some weird spellings and punctuation.
The primary contact email we found. Often a generic info@ or bookings@ address, but we've verified it doesn't bounce. This is what you'll be sending to. Don't expect it to be the owner's direct line.
phone
The bar's main phone number. We scraped it from public listings. It's mostly for your internal records, but you might use it for a quick verification call if the email bounces.
address
Street address of the bar. Useful for territory-based segmentation. We've cleaned it up, but sometimes there are missing apartment numbers or typos. Double-check before sending physical mail.
city
City where the bar is located. Self-explanatory. Helps with local campaigns or event invites.
state
Two-letter state abbreviation. Useful for filtering by state laws or regional promotions.
zip_code
5-digit ZIP code. We included it for your CRM's geolocation features. It's accurate to the street level, but don't use it for precise mapping.
rating
Average Google rating (1-5). We pulled it from public reviews. This gives you a quick sense of the bar's quality. Don't judge a book by its cover, but a 2-star bar might be more desperate for business.
review_count
Number of reviews on Google. More reviews usually means more foot traffic. Combine with rating to gauge popularity.
website
The bar's website URL if they have one. Many don't, so this field might be blank. If it's blank, that's a signal they're not tech-savvy—might respond better to a phone call.
source
Where we originally scraped the data from (e.g., Google Maps, Yelp, Instagram). This is for your trust but also for debugging—if you notice a pattern of bad emails from one source, you can filter it out.
last_verified
Date we last checked that the email didn't bounce. We refresh this monthly. If it's older than 30 days, consider re-verifying before a big campaign.
