Scraping auto insurance leads is a minefield. Most sources are gated behind CAPTCHAs and rate limits, and the good data is locked inside quote comparison engines. We spent weeks reverse-engineering the API endpoints of a major aggregator to extract the raw lead form submissions. The result? A clean CSV with real intent signals, not just random phone numbers.
The hardest part was deduplicating. The same person shops around on multiple sites, so we had to fingerprint by email + phone + VIN to merge duplicates. We also had to filter out bots and fake submissions—about 30% of the raw traffic is garbage. After cleaning, you get a list of people who actually typed in their car details and want a quote. That's the gold.
We refresh the data monthly. It's not real-time because real-time scraping of this niche would get us IP-banned everywhere. But for a B2B lead list, monthly is fine. You're not buying a stock ticker. You're buying a list of humans who said 'I'm shopping for car insurance' in the last 30 days. That's a warm lead, and that's what you're paying for.
Data Schema & Dictionary
lead_id
Unique identifier for each lead. It's a hashed string, not sequential, so don't try to infer volume from it. Use it to reference the lead in your CRM.
first_name
The lead's first name as typed in the quote form. Might be blank if they skipped it. Don't be surprised if it's 'Test' or 'Asdf'—we purge obvious junk, but some slip through.
last_name
Last name. Same caveats as first_name. If it's blank, the lead might still be valuable if the email and phone are real.
Primary email address. This is the one they used on the quote form, so it's likely active. Expect a 60-70% deliverability rate if you send a campaign within a week.
phone
10-digit US phone number. We verify format but not validity. If you call, you'll get a real person or a voicemail—just don't expect them to be happy if you're the 20th caller that day.
zip_code
5-digit ZIP code of the lead's primary residence. Use this for geo-targeting. It's accurate to the ZIP, not to the street.
vehicle_year
Year of the car they want to insure. Older cars mean cheaper policies, so this affects conversion. A 2015 Honda Civic is a different lead than a 2023 Tesla.
vehicle_make
Make of the vehicle (e.g., Toyota, Ford). Simple string. Useful for segmenting by risk profile or marketing specific insurance products.
vehicle_model
Model of the vehicle (e.g., Camry, F-150). Combine with year and make to get the exact car. This is the kind of detail that lets you pre-fill a quote.
coverage_type
The coverage level they requested: 'minimum', 'liability', 'full', or 'comprehensive'. This tells you if they're price-sensitive or want peace of mind. Adjust your pitch accordingly.
created_at
ISO timestamp (UTC) of when the lead was scraped. This is when they submitted a quote on the source site. Use this to gauge freshness—anything older than 30 days is cold.
source_domain
The website where the lead originated. We scrape multiple sources, and this column tells you which one. If one source performs poorly for you, filter it out.
ip_country
Country of the IP address that submitted the form. Almost always 'US' for this niche, but if you see something else, flag it—it might be a VPN or a bot.
user_agent
The browser/user agent string from the submission. Handy for spotting bots or mobile users. Mobile users tend to convert better for insurance because they're on the go.
